The Ogimachi gassho-style village () at Shirakawa-go () is both a visitor attraction and a place where residents live. Visitors should distinguish parking from the village itself, bus travel from driving, and the buildings inside the village that charge separate admission.

This article draws on the Shirakawa Village government, bus operator and Shirakawa-go Tourism Association official pages (checked 2026-10-28). A particular point of caution: the older English page from Shirakawa Village and its newer Japanese parking information still show two different sets of fees. Both are shown with the relevant effective dates, without presenting old prices as new. See the Gifu travel guide for the prefecture as a whole.

Key points

  • The newer Japanese information on village-run parking gives charges from 1 October 2025 of 2,000 yen for a car, 500 yen for a two-wheeled vehicle and 10,000 yen for a large vehicle.
  • The older official English page still states 1,000 yen for a car, 200 yen for a two-wheeled vehicle and 3,000 yen for a large vehicle. These figures come from different versions and must not be mixed.
  • Village parking operates 8:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:30. Residents still live in the village, so follow official areas and times for sightseeing.
  • The official reference time by bus from Takayama to Shirakawa-go is about 50 minutes; some services require reservations.
  • Nagase House () and Myozenji Folk Museum () have separate adult admission fees. Do not treat these individual charges as one admission price for the whole village.

Driving and parking: Why are there different prices?

Shirakawa Village government provides updated fees on its parking information page and in a formal revision notice. An older English official page continues to show the previous amounts. This is a difference between official language versions and should not be resolved by silently choosing one set of figures.

Village-run parking fee versions (checked 2026-10-28)

Vehicle type Newer Japanese village page and revision notice Older official English page How to interpret the figures
Standard car 2,000 yen 1,000 yen New price effective 2025-10-01; English page retains the old figure
Two-wheeled vehicle 500 yen 200 yen The two sources do not represent prices valid simultaneously
Large vehicle 10,000 yen 3,000 yen Check the separate reservation system for large vehicles

The newer fees come from the Shirakawa Village Japanese parking page and formal fee revision announcement; the older figures come from its English transport page. Both have official sources but different update periods. This article does not portray the old prices on the English page as currently applicable.

Village-run Seseragi Park parking () does not mean visitors may drive freely through the gassho-style village. Officials note that people still live there. Observe visiting areas and times and do not assume driving into the village is permitted just because you have reached a parking area.

Parking hours and forthcoming rules (checked 2026-10-28)

Taking the bus from Takayama to Shirakawa-go

Without a car, visitors can take bus services between Takayama and Shirakawa-go. The operator confirms the broad direction and reference journey time, but that does not imply every departure is available without reservations.

Transport from Takayama (checked 2026-10-28)

Item Official information Planning limitation
Starting direction From Takayama towards Shirakawa-go Check the actual boarding stop and service
Reference journey time About 50 minutes Overview estimate, not a guarantee for every bus

This article does not provide an unverified fare, fixed departure timetable or total return cost for Takayama to Shirakawa-go that was not confirmed by this page’s fact-checking information. For wider journeys, use the Gifu transport guide.

Visiting buildings: Which require separate admission?

Gassho-style () buildings in Shirakawa-go are not all freely open to visitors. The official tourism association lists individual buildings available to visit. Only fees and opening arrangements confirmed for this article are included below.

Individual buildings (checked 2026-10-28)

Building Adult admission Confirmed opening arrangement
Nagase House 400 yen 9:00 to 16:00; the official source says these hours are provisional
Myozenji Folk Museum 400 yen Seasonal opening hours apply

The figures above are admission charges for individual buildings, not a general ticket for the village or a parking fee. The official material confirms seasonal hours at Myozenji Folk Museum but does not provide a single time that can be applied year-round.
