Kanagawa Prefecture borders Tokyo and offers many popular day-trip destinations, but travel styles vary widely across the prefecture: harbour cities, historic towns and coastline, mountain hot springs, and a peninsula known for seafood. This page groups Kanagawa by travel style, based on the official areas defined by the prefectural tourism association, and links to detailed pages. For day trips from Tokyo, see the Tokyo day trips guide; this page does not repeat that information.

The seven official areas

The Kanagawa Prefectural Tourism Association divides the prefecture into seven areas: Yokohama and Kawasaki; Hakone (Odawara, Hakone, Yugawara and Manazuru); Shonan; Tanzawa-Oyama; Lake Sagami and the Sagami River basin; the Miura Peninsula; and Ashigara. The official description calls Hakone a place for a leisurely stay, while Ashigara focuses on seasonal scenery, hot springs, camping and hiking.
