Gero Onsen: Day-use baths, Yumeguri Tegata and accommodation
Compare day-use bathing and the Yumeguri Tegata pass at Gero Onsen, including different official prices on the 2020 and 2025 city pages, validity and participating-inn restrictions.
Last checked:
Gero Onsen (下呂温泉) lies along the Hida River (飛騨川). It has day-use baths as well as a Yumeguri Tegata pass (湯めぐり手形) for bathing at participating inns. Choosing an option depends not only on whether you are staying overnight, but also on how many facilities you want to use and whether each accepts day visitors on your chosen date.
This article uses confirmed information from Gero City government pages only (checked 2026-10-28). An important detail is that the city’s older 2020 day-bathing page and updated 2025 Yumeguri Tegata page still display different prices. Both sets of official figures are shown and their versions explained. Accommodation prices and bathing hours for each inn are not included because the official material used here does not confirm them. For regional context, see the Gifu travel guide.
Key points
- Gero Onsen is beside the Hida River. Official city information describes local hot spring culture and day-use bathing options.
- The city’s day-bathing information lists facilities such as Shirasagi-no-Yu (白鷺の湯) and Kounoyu (幸乃湯). Check opening hours and bathing fees individually; do not assume uniform prices.
- The city’s page updated on 1 October 2025 lists the Yumeguri Tegata at 2,500 yen, allowing bathing at 3 participating inns within 6 months after purchase.
- The same city’s older page, dated 15 October 2020, still lists the pass at 1,500 yen. This differs from the newer figure, and both must not be presented as simultaneously applicable prices.
- The pass cannot necessarily be used at every inn on every date. Check actual bathing times and restrictions at participating inns.
Day-use baths, the Yumeguri Tegata and accommodation: What’s different?
Gero City’s official tourism information lists individual day-use bathhouses separately from the Yumeguri Tegata for participating inns. They are not a single charging system.
Bathing options compared (checked 2026-10-28)
| Arrangement | What this article confirms | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| One day-use bath | Gero City lists individual day-use facilities | That facility’s operation and bathing fee on the day |
| Yumeguri Tegata | Newer city page allows visits to 3 participating inns | Pass price, validity period, participating facilities and date restrictions |
| Overnight accommodation and bathing | Accommodation and bathing depend on the individual property | Whether the lodging plan includes bathing, and rules for guests and non-residents |
Accommodation is a type of trip arrangement, not a single ticket that can be priced directly against the pass. The official pages provide no individual inn room prices, accommodation packages or guest bathing conditions, so accommodation charges are not included in the comparison.
Similarly, listing a facility as a day-use bath does not establish a common charge or eligibility for entry with the pass. The list of day-use facilities and the list of participating Yumeguri Tegata inns require separate checks.
Why do official sources show two Yumeguri Tegata prices?
The Yumeguri Tegata is an option for visiting Gero Onsen, but visitors reading the city government’s website will encounter pages from different years. The older and newer pages do not represent the same price version.
Comparison of city page versions (checked 2026-10-28)
| Official page version | Page update date | Listed pass price | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Older city day-bathing page | 15 October 2020 | 1,500 yen | An older official figure; not automatically the latest selling price |
| Newer city Yumeguri Tegata page | 1 October 2025 | 2,500 yen | More recent version; check again before purchasing |
Both sources are from Gero City government, so the older number cannot simply be deleted as an unsourced error. However, the pages have different update dates; visitors must not be told that both prices are valid on the same day.
The newer official page confirms that the Yumeguri Tegata can be used at 3 selected participating inns within 6 months of purchase. That validity period does not mean every participating inn accepts the pass every day during those months.
Pass rules and restrictions (checked 2026-10-28)
| Item | Officially confirmed information | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Price on newer page | 2,500 yen | It will never change |
| Number of uses | Choose 3 participating inns | It can be used at every inn |
| Validity | 6 months from purchase | Bathing is guaranteed on every date |
| Available times | Determined by each participating inn | Every inn uses the same hours |
| Unavailable dates | Some dates or individual inns may not accept the pass | It guarantees entry on every public holiday |
The validity period of the pass and actual bathing hours at each inn are two distinct conditions. Even when a pass has not expired, confirm that the inn accepts day visitors on your intended date.
Which day-use baths are listed officially?
Gero City’s day-bathing page names examples including Shirasagi-no-Yu and Kounoyu. This confirms they are among the city’s day-use options, but does not establish identical current fees or hours for these facilities.
Day-use bathing compared (checked 2026-10-28)
| Question to check | Individual day-use facility | Yumeguri Tegata |
|---|---|---|
| Where can you bathe? | Follow the individual facility’s information | Use the current list of participating inns |
| How is the fee calculated? | Check the charge separately at each facility | The newer official page lists a pass price |
| When can you use it? | Follow the facility’s operation on the day | Follow each participating inn’s available dates and bathing hours |
| Does one pass cover all facilities? | Cannot be inferred from the term “day-use bath” | First verify that an inn participates |
This distinction avoids treating every hot spring facility as the same product. The city government’s list of day-use baths and the designated participating inns must be checked separately.
How to choose: A short stop, several baths or an overnight stay?
| Your needs | Main deciding factors | What this article supports |
|---|---|---|
| One bathing session | Opening and charge at a specific facility | Compare actual conditions for an individual day-use bath |
| Try baths at different inns | Participating list, pass validity and restrictions | Consider Yumeguri Tegata, after checking which inns accept it |
| Stay overnight in Gero | Accommodation details and guest rules | A pass price alone cannot establish the value of an accommodation package |
| Use the pass on different days | Validity and each inn’s arrangements on those dates | Pass validity does not guarantee bathing places on specified dates |
Before choosing, check which facilities can actually be used on your intended day, then compare costs. Otherwise, even a pass that appears to allow several bathhouse visits may be unusable at an individual inn on certain dates.
Notes
Two official Gero City pages give different pass prices: the older 2020 page lists 1,500 yen and the newer 2025 page lists 2,500 yen. This is a difference between source versions. The older figure has not been removed here, but it is not presented as the current selling price.
Official material does not establish available bathing hours at every participating inn on 2026-10-28, nor any possible price revisions or participant numbers for 2027. Prices, times and usage rules may change. Check the official websites and intended facility again before departure.
