Arima Onsen day trip: Transport, Gin no Yu prices and hours
Plan a day trip to Arima Onsen from Kobe via Tanigami and Arimaguchi, and compare Gin no Yu admission, closing days and the combined gold-and-silver bath ticket.

Arima Onsen (有馬温泉) offers not only overnight accommodation but also facilities for day bathing. If travelling from central Kobe, the plan can first be divided into two questions: “How do you reach the hot spring area?” and “Which bath can you use that day?” This article uses information from the Arima Onsen Tourism Association and Hyogo Prefecture’s official tourism resources (checked 2026-10-28), focusing on the railway route from Sannomiya, Gin no Yu’s hours and fees, and the combined gold-and-silver bath ticket. For other areas, see the Hyogo travel guide.
Key points
- Official reference rail route from Sannomiya: transfer at Tanigami and Arimaguchi to reach Arima Onsen; the tourism association gives approximately 30 minutes.
- Gin no Yu offers day bathing: official information lists opening hours of 9:00 to 21:00, with last admission at 20:30.
- Gin no Yu adult fees vary by day: 550 yen on weekdays and 700 yen on other days.
- Combined gold-and-silver bath ticket: the tourism association lists 1,200 yen; this does not mean all additional items or usage conditions are identical.
- Watch for closures: Gin no Yu closes on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday and 1 January, with a rule for closing the following day when a scheduled closing date is a holiday.
Sannomiya to Arima Onsen: transfers matter more than the fastest journey time
Sannomiya (三宮) is a common starting area in Kobe. The tourism association’s reference railway route passes through Tanigami (谷上) and Arimaguchi (有馬口) before reaching Arima Onsen Station. It is a route outline and an approximate journey time, not a door-to-door estimate including waiting, buying tickets and walking to the bath.
| Stage | Officially listed route | Check when planning |
|---|---|---|
| Depart central Kobe | Travel by rail from the Sannomiya area towards Tanigami | Available services on the intended travel date |
| Intermediate transfer | Change at Tanigami to Kobe Electric Railway, via Arimaguchi | Transfer direction and waiting time |
| Reach the hot spring area | Change at Arimaguchi for Arima Onsen Station | Actual route from the station to the bath |
| Reference journey time | Officially stated as about 30 minutes | Do not treat this as the total time from the hotel entrance |
To make a day visit easier to adjust, record the return train journey separately from bathing time. First confirm the return services, then check the bath’s last admission time. This avoids mistaking the reference train journey time for time available to spend at the bath.
Gin no Yu: opening hours and closing rules
Gin no Yu (銀の湯) is a day-use bath listed by the Arima Onsen Tourism Association. It differs from accommodation-based hot spring facilities. This article covers only verified rules for Gin no Yu and does not apply conditions from other baths to it.
| Gin no Yu item | Official information (checked 2026-10-28) | What visitors should note |
|---|---|---|
| Opening hours | 9:00 to 21:00 | New visitors are not necessarily admitted at every point in this period |
| Last admission | 20:30 | Use the last admission time to judge whether arrival is in time |
| Regular closures | 1st and 3rd Tuesday | Do not assume every Tuesday is a closing day |
| Scheduled closure falls on a holiday | Opens on the holiday and closes the following day | Confirm the actual date |
| New Year closure | 1 January | Relevant to trips around New Year |
For arrivals in the late afternoon or evening, the key information for a day-use bath is the admission deadline, not just closing time. If your date is near a scheduled closure, check that day’s notice before planning transport and other activities.
Comparing prices: single entry to Gin no Yu or the combined gold-and-silver ticket
The tourism association lists adult Gin no Yu admission prices that vary by date and also a combined ticket for Kin no Yu (金の湯) and Gin no Yu. The official information used in this review did not establish the individual adult admission fee for Kin no Yu, so it is not possible to calculate savings from paying separately for each bath versus buying the combined ticket using an unverified price.
| Ticket or bathing option | Confirmed adult price | What else needs checking |
|---|---|---|
| Gin no Yu single admission on weekdays | 550 yen | Whether the date qualifies for the weekday rate |
| Gin no Yu single admission on other days | 700 yen | Admission conditions on the actual visit date |
| Kin no Yu and Gin no Yu combined ticket | 1,200 yen | Sales and usage rules for the combined ticket that day |
The existence of a combined ticket does not guarantee that both baths can be visited fully on the same day, and the information above cannot be used to derive Kin no Yu’s individual admission fee. If only visiting Gin no Yu, the simplest comparison is which fee category applies on your date. If visiting both, also confirm each bath’s operating conditions for that day.
How to plan a day trip
| Travel goal | Information to check first | Do not assume yet |
|---|---|---|
| Half-day mainly for bathing | Return train services, Gin no Yu opening and last admission that day | You can bathe immediately after reaching the station |
| Mainly walking around the hot spring area | Decide arrival and departure times, then whether to include bathing | All hot spring facilities have identical opening rules |
| Use the combined gold-and-silver ticket | Ticket eligibility and the operating details of both baths | The ticket always saves money compared with single admissions |
| Combine with central Kobe on the same day | Record the approximate 30-minute rail reference separately from time at the baths | All activities can be completed by a specified time |
When planning the trip, checking return transport and Gin no Yu’s closing dates before choosing a ticket is a basic way to avoid arriving when bathing is unavailable. It is not a personal recommendation of which bath visitors must choose.
A few reminders
Hot spring opening hours, admission fees and closing arrangements may change. This article is based on information checked 2026-10-28. Before travelling, check the Arima Onsen Tourism Association and bath information again. The individual Kin no Yu admission fee is not included in this article.
