The Tokaido Shinkansen is the main rail link across Chubu, while sightseeing in Izu and within Shizuoka requires transfers to local rail or buses. This page uses official information from JR Central, Izu Kyuko and the Shizuoka tourism association (checked on 2026-10-28). The official pages do not give a complete table of journey times and fares between Nagoya and Shizuoka, or uniform inter-prefecture fares, so these are not included. Before travelling, use route and timetable search tools for services on your date. Return to the Chubu travel guide.

Key points

  • Shinkansen timetable: JR Central’s basic timetable is dated 14 March 2026 and does not list every train; extra services may run depending on season, events and day of the week
  • Station timetables: the official site allows searches for Shinkansen times approximately one month ahead; schedules may change
  • Izu east coast: Izu Kyuko Line connects Ito and Izukyu-Shimoda with 16 stations in total
  • Shizuoka Prefecture has 6 Shinkansen stations
