Furano and Biei attractions can first be grouped into flower fields, the Blue Pond and stopping points in the Shirogane area, then planned according to the scenery you want to see in the current season. Farm Tomita () focuses on lavender and other flower fields, while the water colour at Shirogane Blue Pond () changes with natural conditions. This article uses official Furano and Biei tourism information (checked 2026-10-28) without estimating bus services or individual attraction admission fees. For travel across areas, start with the Hokkaido travel overview and Furano and Biei travel guide.

Key points

  • Farm Tomita has lavender and other flower fields. The scenery changes with the seasons; one type of flower display cannot be treated as a year-round view.
  • The Blue Pond’s colour depends on weather, snowmelt and rainfall. After heavy rain or snowmelt, it may not look blue.
  • The Biei Tourism Association gives reference times of approximately 20 minutes by both car and Dohoku Bus from JR Biei Station to Shirogane Blue Pond. Actual bus services must be checked separately.
  • Shirogane Biruke () provides toilets, shops and parking and can serve as a stop within the Shirogane area.
  • The announced winter illumination period at Shirogane Blue Pond is 22 October 2026 to 21 April 2027. This does not mean the same dates will apply in later years.

How to choose attractions by area

Official information checked 2026-10-28. This groups attractions by scenery and confirmed facilities, not as a complete sequence of roads.

What you want to see Place to consider first Confirmed features What to distinguish when planning
Flower fields and seasonal plant scenery Farm Tomita Lavender and other flower fields, changing through the seasons Flower types and current displays cannot be summarized by one fixed month
Pond colours and natural scenery Shirogane Blue Pond Blue appearance depends on weather, snowmelt and rainfall Visiting the Blue Pond does not guarantee seeing blue water
Rest and supplies between attractions Shirogane Biruke Toilets, shops and parking This is a service facility, not another flower field
Other Shirogane attractions Shirahige Falls () The official information used here also covers the Shirogane area and winter illuminations For detailed access and illumination times, see the Blue Pond feature

Flower fields and the pond do not share the same viewing conditions. Plan flowers according to the actual seasonal display, while accepting that rain and melting snow can change the pond’s colour. Shirogane Biruke has a different role as a service facility. Separating viewing attractions from stopping places is more useful than simply placing every name in a list.

Getting to the Blue Pond and weather changes

For access to Shirogane Blue Pond, first establish that the departure point is JR Biei Station (). The official page provides two ways of reaching it but no individual bus departures suitable for inclusion here.

Item Official information How to use it in route planning
Starting point JR Biei Station First establish whether you have arrived in Biei before planning the Shirogane leg
Driving About 20 minutes from Biei Station to the Blue Pond An official reference, not a guaranteed arrival time
Dohoku Bus About 20 minutes from Biei Station to the Blue Pond Check the actual services for your travel date
Water colour After heavy rain or snowmelt, the water may become cloudy and not appear blue Do not judge the likely scenery solely from promotional photos

Both approximately 20-minute references come from the Biei Tourism Association’s descriptions of travel between the same areas. They are not a comparison of total costs or waiting times for bus and car. If you are visiting several places, check whether public transport actually connects your stops using the current timetables. For travel between areas by JR, bus or car, see the Furano and Biei transport guide.

Winter and stopping points in Shirogane

Announced information for winter 2026–2027 (checked 2026-10-28): the Biei Tourism Association announced illuminations at Shirogane Blue Pond from 22 October 2026 to 21 April 2027. This is a specific period crossing two calendar years and must not be presented as the fixed dates every year.

Part of the itinerary Confirmed arrangements What to check before departure
Shirogane Blue Pond illumination 2026-10-22 to 2027-04-21 Check for changes to arrangements that day
Shirogane Biruke Toilets, shops and parking facilities Check seasonal opening arrangements
Shirahige Falls Another attraction in the Shirogane area See the related feature for specific viewing and activity information
Farm Tomita Lavender and other flower fields Check seasonal flowers rather than using the Blue Pond illumination dates

For example, a trip focused on the Blue Pond illuminations has different seasonal priorities from one focused on lavender fields. Both can appear in a Furano and Biei attractions list, but they should not be described using a single set of flowering dates, illumination periods or transport conditions. For Shirahige Falls and other Shirogane connections, see Biei Blue Pond and Shirahige Falls.
